My lockdown workout programme

Hi guys ! If you read my previous article about how to avoid losing it during lockdown, you know that I’ve been doing sports on a regular basis. I’m not a fitness pro, but I came up with a cool programme that has been working very well for me ! It’s not too hard but you will still be feeling your body working – I’ve even discovered new muscles I didn’t know existed
If I can do it, so can you – just know that I’ve NEVER won an arm wrestle in my entire life … no no, not even against this 14 years old kid last summer… ouch painful memory, let’s move on – NO MORE EXCUSES !

Like most of us during this lockdown, I’ve been relying on the Internet and particularly on YouTube. Many fitness channels offer great programmes, but I chosed to build my own « Lockdown Workout Programme », to be able to adapt it to what I wanted (taking the opportunity of being away from Cardiff pubs to work on my shape and gain some muscles !)

For that, I picked several videos from the channel Blogilates (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIJwWYOfsCfz6PjxbONYXSg).
Cassey offers nice videos accessible to everyone at every level (and trust me, mine was quite low when I started !) so I picked the one I liked best and drafted my weekly programme !
I’m alternating between top body, abs, booty and legs 💪

Monday : Top body & legs
What a better way to start the week than with a double session, right ?

🏋️‍♀️ Cassey uses weights but if like me you start with absolutely zero strength in your arms, I recommand to try and do it without any the first time to get the movements right !

🏋️‍♀️ This one is quite hard for me as I have no balance and there is a lot of standing on one leg while the other is working out, but I manage to do the exercises by putting my hand on a wall – don’t worry, it still hurts !

Tuesday : Booty day
I used to do no more than leg extensions, and therefore to believe I was super toned, but that was before I tried this …

🏋️‍♀️I add some more exercises to this session : rainbow butt lifts and what I call the « pyramid squats » – credit to my friend and gym partner Brittany – which consists in adding more and more small squats to your series : you start with 1 regular squat, then 2 small, then 3 etc… and then, without stopping, you go all the way back to 1. I personally set my pyramid top to 10, but you can set it at 5 or 15 or whatever fits you best !

Wednesday : Abs day
Sure, laughing make you feel you’re working on them, but those abs need a bit more in-depth work !

🏋️‍♀️ Really like that session, even if the last 30 seconds of the exercises are killing me (you’ll get why soon enough). I still can’t get the eagle crunches right though …

Thursday : Legs day
Hope you don’t feel sore from Monday, because it’s legs again !

Friday : Top body day
It somehow shifted from being the session I hated the most to the one I like best !

🏋️‍♀️If this is your first week and you had done the session without any weights on Monday, you can try with light ones ! I only use weights of 1 & 2 kg (2,2 & 4,4 pounds), no more (but I’m closer to winning an arm wrestle than before !).

Saturday : Abs & booty
Yes. I know. A double session again. But you can do it ! I believe in you !!

Sunday : Full body
What ??
No, Sunday is obviously rest day, if you managed to keep up with the programme you deserve a break ! Enjoy it while it lasts, Monday it aaall starts again !
When I have time I use this break day to do a streching or a yoga session, which is always good for your body !

There you go, the week is over, and now you have an organised workout programme !
Like I said, I’m far from being a pro, just a locked down student with the need to stay healthy and to be as physically active as possible under the actual conditions.
All I can do is sharing what works well for me and hoping it will work for you too !
Youtube is full of great sports channels, so if you have different goals feel free to have a look and find what suits you best !
